Winter Sun

Winter Sun- Christmas Star
This was taken a couple of days before Christmas when then winter sun was high in the sky and there were wonderful cloud formations being criss-crossed across the sky by contrails.  When Tom saw it he said "It's a Christmas Star".  After all the star that shone on Christmas night lit the night with the light of noon day.  The sun with its light rays fanning out does indeed remind me of what that star may have looked like.
In reality it is the winter sun; shown at noon and as high as it goes in the sky.  I am endlessly amazed and facscinated by the way light effects the way we see our world.  This day was bright and cheery and because of the rain the day before the clouds were amazing in their shapes.  Added to that the fact that we live south of the Atlanta Airport and the heavy holiday trafic with the contrails the jets left behind made for phenomenal sky panaramas.

Christmas sunrise: Off the beaten path

Christmas sunrise

For those of you who where up at the crack of dawn, but where occupied with kids and gifts and those who got to sleep in here is this Christmas morning's sunrise.
This was taken from the woods behind my house because of this:

Christmas in the woods
We have a neighbor who decorates one of the pine trees in the woods and although they can't be seen in this photo it is complete with shiny glass ornaments.

This year they added a table and chairs
and Rudolph

Christmas Georgia Style

Christmas Georgia Style
What a beautiful day we had today; sunny and almost 70 degrees.   All the photos in this post were taken today with bare trees, flowers, green grass and Christmas decorations.

One of the nice things about living in Georgia is we have some kind of flowers blooming all year round

LOL Christmas- Greeting or Warning

Merry Christmas, my dog might eat your face.
Emily had her tonsils taken out this morning.  How's that for a Christmas present?  Come home from college for Christmas and have to have your tonsils removed.  Boo Hiss. Poor baby.  But while she was sleeping I was trying to do something quiet and came across this photo.  Hope you

Posters for grandchildren

I've been wracking my brain as to what to send  to my grand kids for Christmas.  I've been the book grandma, but as they get older not all of them have developed a love of reading.  Big SIGH!!! Some have developed a love of drawing which is almost as good and I have sent drawing supplies to some.  I don't like to send toys especially trendy toys because I want to send something personal that can help us relate to each other. All books get read by me before they get given as gifts so I know they are appropriate and we can discuss them.  Of course with drawing we can share our current projects but I still have a couple of kids that kind of baffled me this Christmas.  Then I came up with the idea of the zoo collage.  I do not live close enough to take them to the zoo in person but I can take them to the zoo through my photos.  I am going to have this blown up to poster size so they can put it up on their wall and remember me.  I find it hard to be a long distance grandma and any ideas would be appreciated.

Family Christmas

I have had lots of family visiting and between having been in the hospital and trying to recuperate from being sick and having the family visiting I have not had a lot of time to spend on the computer. Emily flew here from BYU were she is a senior. We have spend lots of time talking and getting to know each other on a different level. It is wonderful to get to know your children on an adult level. Laura is down here from Virginia with her two boys Hayden (2 1/2) and Wyatt (6 mon.). She is doing so well as a mother especially with one in his terrible twos and a little one. My house is not very well child-proofed which adds to the challenge. We now have locks on all the doors so as to limit access which helps. Benn has been down and spent a couple of nights. Of course than there's Tom, Jeremy and myself. What a houseful. We've all had a good time, but it has been stressful for all. I learned a long time ago that any change even a good change causes stress. I love them all and am glad they came and stayed. Everyone of the visiting family was gone yesterday and things are much quieter and it is nice that things are getting back to normal.

Took Emily to the Doctor in Jackson just before Christmas; saw this house liked it's old-fashioned charm.

A Pleasant day of rest

A pleasant day outside not really sunny, but pleasant. Nice temperature, slight breeze, just feels nice. Slept in this morning and when I got up and looked out my kitchen window; my backyard was alive with movement there was all these little birds in the grass eating away. They were well hidden so mostly all I could see was movement and an occasional bird; it was kind of magical to watch them appear and disappear. A pleasant way to start the day.
I've brushed the big dog and with enough Milk Bones (what dog won't behave for a Milk Bone) and a leash and good brush; it can be very relaxing.
Now I've just doing what I want on my computer watching an old Disney movie on the Hallmark channel. I haven't seen the Gnome Mobile since I was a kid and am quite enjoying it.
My little dog, Rascal, is on medication that makes him have to go outside about every 2 hours or so, so I'm real glad it's nice out plus it keeps me from getting stiff. I've kind of overdone the last couple of days trying to make up for the time in the hospital and moving slowly cause I didn't feel good so I pushed too hard and really needed to rest up in preparation for the next couple of days.
I'm feeling better now and I'm grateful to be feeling well enough to enjoy it. I wish you, my friends, a Happy Holiday this year. ENJOY!!!!!
